Background

This site combines the genealogical research of Carrie E. Allen (1856-1951), Philip Allen (1918-2015), Douglas Allen (1948-) and other members of our extended Allen family.

Carrie Allen (known as "Aunt Nell" to the family) published A Record of the Family of Isaac Van Nuys in 1916 (available for download in pdf format (14.6 mb) here: Van Nuys Geneaology). An addenda titled Van Nice Family Record was issued in 1956 based on her subsequent work and that of others after her death. These books included what was then known of our Allen family. The Werts Family Record, published in 1974 covered the family of Philip's mother and was compiled by his sister, Elizabeth Allen. In later years, Phil extended the research done by Carrie and Elizabeth to include many of the other families whom the Allens and Wertses had married into during their time in America, including the Smiths, Quicks, Stouts, Cortelyous and many others. His work was published in the Allen Family History (1990, working with Neva L. Callison) and the Werts Family History (1994). Early in the 20th century, W. H. Meyer published the genealogy of the Luers family, The Luers Family in America by W. H. Meyer (available for download in pdf format (27.9 mb) here: Luers Family in America). The results of all these efforts is now compliled on this site in the Allen/Luers/Werts Genealogy, shown in the navigation panel at left.

Reconstructing William Allen (1711-1799), the detailed history/biography/genealogy of our first Allen ancestor in America, was revised in 2017, with 50 pages of corrections and additional information. It is available from Lulu.com and Amazon.com.
